Troy Lee Designs SE4 Composite Yamaha L4 Helmet
The Troy Lee SE4 Composite Yamaha L4 Helmet is a premier Motocross Helmet and comes complete with Mips® safety system
How does the Mips® safety system work? The brain is typically more sensitive to rotational motion than linear motion because it has shear properties similar to water or gel. When different parts of the brain move relative to each other because of rotational motion, the tissues can stretch, which can cause concussions or other brain injuries. Rotational motion is a common cause of concussions and more severe brain injury in oblique hits to the head. The Mips® safety system consists of a low friction layer mounted inside the helmet. In a crash, the low friction layer is designed to move slightly inside the helmet to help redirect forces away from the head. This is intended to help reduce the risk of brain injury. and 13% more EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) for ultimate head safety. This lightweight helmet weighs in at only 1425 grams, creating one of the lightest composite shell helmets TLD has ever produced. The SE4 Helmet comes with 6 top intakes vents which feed 10 internal ports for maximum cool air induction, couple that with 6 exhaust ports that are fed by 9 internal passages to provide excellent dissipation of heat and you've got one protective, lightweight, super-ventilated helmet.
Features:
- Mips® safety system
- Composite shell construction
- Three separate EPS inserts with varying low and high speed impact-specific densities
- Three shell sizes to more accurately fit a variety of head sizes and rider ages, improving overall safety
- Anatomical 3D contoured cheek pads with emergency release system for EMS responders
- 21 Intake / Exhaust Ports channel air to cool the head and draw hot air away
- Removable snap-in, washable Comfort Liner with Coolmax and Dri-lex moisture wicking materials
- Stainless steel D-rings for increased material tensile strength
- Plastic visor screws and brass inserts for easy impact break-away
- Meets certifications for DOT and ECE 22.05
The ECE 22.05 (Economic Commission for Europe) standard is quite a bit younger than the current DOT standard, and in many ways offers a more comprehensive battery of testing than its American cousin. ECE standards test for safety features that can contribute to avoiding an accident altogether, such as the optical quality of approved face shields and safety factors not directly related to impact, such as shell rigidity. Unlike the DOT, every ECE 22.05 certified helmet model must actually be tested against the standard by an independent lab before it is available for sale with an ECE sticker.
