Troy Lee Designs Youth SE4 Polyacrylite Carb Helmet
Lean and mean, the Youth SE4 Polyacrylite Helmet delivers many of the top-shelf features developed for the winning full-sized SE4 family of helmets - including MIPS safety technology to reduce internal head injury by absorbing rotational impact force. This lightweight helmet includes 16 intake ports to channel cool air around and over a rider's head, forcing hot sweaty air out through six rear exhaust ports.
Features:
- Mips® safety system
How does the Mips® safety system work? The brain is typically more sensitive to rotational motion than linear motion because it has shear properties similar to water or gel. When different parts of the brain move relative to each other because of rotational motion, the tissues can stretch, which can cause concussions or other brain injuries. Rotational motion is a common cause of concussions and more severe brain injury in oblique hits to the head. The Mips® safety system consists of a low friction layer mounted inside the helmet. In a crash, the low friction layer is designed to move slightly inside the helmet to help redirect forces away from the head. This is intended to help reduce the risk of brain injury.
- EPP (Expanded PolyPropylene) chin bar padding for lightweight, durable protection
- Two youth shell sizes
- 16 intake and 6 exhaust ports
- Removable cheekpads and headliner
- Anatomical 3D contoured cheek pads with emergency release system for EMS responders
- Plastic visor screws and brass inserts for easy impact break-away
- Exceeds certifications for DOT FMVSS 218 and ECE 22.05
The ECE 22.05 (Economic Commission for Europe) standard is quite a bit younger than the current DOT standard, and in many ways offers a more comprehensive battery of testing than its American cousin. ECE standards test for safety features that can contribute to avoiding an accident altogether, such as the optical quality of approved face shields and safety factors not directly related to impact, such as shell rigidity. Unlike the DOT, every ECE 22.05 certified helmet model must actually be tested against the standard by an independent lab before it is available for sale with an ECE sticker.
